Joel Kinnaman – the actor best known for his role as detective Stephen Holder on AMC’s hit series The Killing - has been made an offer by MGM to become the new Robocop. Recently, Kinnaman have been roles in such films as "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo", "Skyler" and "Safe House". The role of RoboCop could be the first serious role for him.

In a new call for research, Darpa is asking for proposals to devise prototype implantable biosensors. Once inserted under a soldier’s skin, Darpa wants the sensors to provide real-time, accurate measurements of "DoD-relevant biomarkers” including stress hormones, like cortisol, and compounds that signal inflammation, like histamine.... MGM has hired Gran Torino screenwriter Nick Schenk (Gran Torino) to work on the screenplay for RoboCop. Jose Padilha is attached to direct the action sci-fi reboot.

The CAA-repped Schenk had been working with Padilha, who co-wrote and directed Elite Squad: The Enemy Within, on the action thriller Tri-Border. The writer also has the original drama The Judge set up at Warner Bros. with Team Downey producing.

That Ridley Scott Blade Runner-sequel might be even further off than fans had hoped. (Or feared, depending on your thoughts on that project.) The director is now in talks to direct Cormac McCarthy‘s The Counselor and is keen on shooting it after he’s done with Prometheus.

Scott is well-known for mulling and juggling several projects before settling on one. For example, just in the last few months he’s been attached to film about an African coup, Gertrude Bell and the Blade Runner sequel. So there’s no guarantee this movie goes next even if that’s what’s being said.
